There is already a thread of similar topic, on which I already expressed my regret for the apparent snowless winter 2007-2008 here in the Northern suburbs of Houston.

And I already expressed hope the WINTER 2008-2009 will be like Winter 2004-2005, and have another Christmas Eve Miracle snow at my house.

It did snow at my sisters house twice this winter, but up there, snow and/or freezing rain happens more winters than not, amazing what less than 300 miles of geography can do for the weather.

The weather follows a cyclical pattern:
It was the 54th coolest winter since national records began in 1895.

Wow. That's pretty impressive compared to what I expected.
Was this a blip or part of a larger cycle? Hopefully
someone with a large climatology background can provide
some insight here.

I don't see what's so impressive about it. 54th coldest means it would also be the 58th warmest. That puts it as almost as average as you can get.

The amazing part of it is that it is the only normal winter in eight years!

Exactly.. It's already got me wondering what next winter will be like. This was a large scale change of pace and not just a localized normality.
