Most Consecutive decent winters...

what is the most amount of consecutive winters that NYC/PHD/DC saw above average and atleast average snowfall??

That's a great question. 1976-1977 through 1978-1979 were three above average snowfall winters in that area. I am not sure what the record is, but I know it has to be at least 3.

had a pretty good stretch of winters from 1899 thru the mid 20s but if you want winters in a row, check out 1913-1918.

Which also coincides with one of the least active periods tropicalwise. (Exception 1916). Part of this could possibly be attributed to an inactive sunspot activity period (Dr. Dewpoint Article).

Also, if you'll notice about the "Year with a Summer" in the early 1800's, not only was there a huge volcanic eruption, but sunspot activity was on the very inactive side.

that period was dominated by a lack of enso except for the nino of 1913-14 and the strong nina of 1917-18.

thanks for the replies, I knew the late 70's had a good stretch, and then 92-93,93-94 was 2 winters, but i knew there had to be more then that. thanks again
