Even though you can get lots of cold and snow in those high elevations in the south, I would much rather have my residence in the higher latitudes. The sun angle is too high in Arizona in winter. One of the great things about winter in the north are the extremely short days and the noontime look of the sun that resembles a June evening.

For instance, I'm sitting at my desk with the sun blaring through the window directly at me. I can feel VERY little heat even though its blaring right on me. That's what winter is all about.

That's the great thing about Az.....we DO get a TON of snow, my average snowfall here at the house is about 132".....we get on the average 12"-14" per storm, 5 days later, it's gone JUST in time for another round, take for instance, this week, we have this system coming in now, ending Friday afternoon, then ANOTHER round of heavy snow Sunday thru Tues!

What I like about winter is having a long duration of snowcover. Also, a long duration of temps below freezing for ice fishing and other winter activities held on frozen bodies of water. Your lower latitude excludes activities such as this. I'm not saying you shouldn't enjoy where you live but my personal preference is definitely the north.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you Dennis!!

With all of the flooding rain we had overnight and this morning, I was wishing there was a way that it could be packaged and shipped out to you too! It was awful - places that don't usually flood, did.

It is great to hear that you will be getting snow, Dennis!

roar - I agree that having a long-duration snow cover and a low sun angle are great things about winter. Your area does better than mine in both categories, but my wife is not too keen on really harsh winter weather so we will likely not be moving any further north.

I'm pretty sure that's the same storm that will give us severe weather tomorrow night and Saturday.
