Winter Weather Summary
POSTED: December 15, 2003 6:52 a.m.

Strong Storm Leaving New England; Next Storm Coming Out of the Rockies...

The center of the nor'easter is near Cape Cod this morning. By this evening, the center will be near the Canadian Maritimes. The heaviest snowfall today with this big storm will be in northern Maine, where 6 to as much as 12 inches of new snow will fall. Farther south and west, into central New England and northern New York, most places will have an additional 1-3 inches. Wind gusts over 40 mph will add to the problems.
From the Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania, southward into the mountains of eastern West Virginia, a couple of inches of snow will accumulate.
In the meantime, the next storm is coming out of the Rockies, and that means wind and snow from Colorado and northern New Mexico to the western Great Lakes over the next 24 hours. Snowfall amounts will generally be 1-3 inches; however, the high mountains of Colorado will have 3-6 inches, as will portions of northern Minnesota. The wind will gust over 40 mph with this storm as well.
Farther west, the Washington Cascades will pick up a new 1-3 inches by tomorrow, as will the Bitterroots and the mountains of western Montana.
