Strong Storm and Front in the Midwest Today; Into the East Tomorrow...
One extremely powerful storm is over the Canadian Maritimes this morning; this storm left as much as 28 inches of snow in northern Maine. The next storm and its associated cold front is coming through the Midwest today, through Chicago this midday, Detroit and Cleveland this evening and into the East tomorrow. Snow amounts with this storm in the Midwest, specifically northeastern Iowa, northwestern Illinois, to eastern Minnesota, into Wisconsin and Upper Michigan, will be 1-3 inches generally. Lake Superior will enhance the snowfall on the Michigan Upper Peninsula -- where there can be 3-6 inches. Farther east, there will be a changeover to snow later today and tonight from Chicago to lower Michigan, across Indiana, Ohio, and into western Pennsylvania, and as far south as Kentucky before the precipitation comes to an end. There may be enough snow to cause slippery travel. The precipitation will move into the East tomorrow. It is possible that later tomorrow and tomorrow night, there is enough snow in and east of the Appalachians to cause travel problems.
Out in the West, we see a strong front coming into the Pacific Northwest. Later today and tonight, there will be 1-3 inches of snow in the Cascades, into eastern Washington, northern Idaho, and westernmost Montana. The Washington Cascades can have as much as 3-6 inches by tomorrow.
