Another E. Coast Storm To Develop
December 16, 2003
The storm moving into the Great Lakes
Tuesday will take on new life on
Wednesday as it re-develops over the
southern Appalachians and rapidly
intensifies as it tracks north up the east
coast.
This storm will be more wet than white
as, unlike in previous storms, there is
no Canadian high pressure to supply
fresh cold air ahead of it.
Flood watches have already been
issued from Pennsylvania and New
Jersey through parts of New York and
New England as over 1" of rain could
fall in a short amount of time over a
substantial snowpack.
WeatherBug cameras in Warwick, NY
and Brookline, NH showed a solid
snowpack remaining after two recent
winter storms.
Snow is expected to be confined mainly
to interior areas from the central
Appalachians into upstate New York
and the mountains of New England. A
winter storm watch has been posted for
Wednesday afternoon through
Thursday for northeast New York.
Another major concern with such a
strong storm will be high winds. The
winds are expected to be strongest
further north over eastern New York
and New England as the storm will
have reached its full strength by the
time it passes by there.
Much colder air will follow in behind the
storm in the northeast, mid-Atlantic and
eastern Great Lakes, with dangerously
low wind chills expected on Thursday.
This is a rapidly developing storm.
