Winter storm watch in effect from late Saturday night through sunday,
The NWS in greenville-spartanburg has issued a winter storm watch for the northern foothills and northwest piedmont of north carolina.
Precipitation will likely begin across the foothills and northwest piedmont of north carolina as a mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain late Saturday night. The precipitation should transition to sleet and freezing rain, with accumulating sleet the primary concern from morganton to statesville to mocksville during the morning hours. By Sunday afternoon, a changeover to freezing rain is expected, with total ice accumulations of 1/4 to 1/2 inch possible.
If these ice accumulations develop, damage to trees and power lines will be possible and road conditions will likely become treacherous. Stay tuned to noaa weather radio or your favorite media outlet for the very latest updates.
