Our local meteorologist is as unsure about the arctic air and precip as we are. NWS in Jackson is still unsure also. http://kamala.cod.edu/ms/latest.fxus64.KJAN.html
FORECAST FOR THE WEEKEND WILL BE DIFFICULT. MODELS REFUSE TO SETTLE
ON ONE SOLUTION AND CYCLE TO CYCLE DIFFERENCES CONTINUE. FAINT
RESEMBLANCE AMONG MODELS SUGGEST COLDER AIR SETTLING INTO THE REGION
SATURDAY WITH SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCES REGARDING PRECIP CHANCES.
WORST CASE SCENARIO INDICATES CHANCE OF WINTER WEATHER AROUND THE
END OF THE FORECAST PERIOD BUT OTHER SOLUTIONS DISAGREE. STAY TUNED

After reading the forcast discussions from Oklahoma City, Dallas and Shreveport this afternoon, it appears that the models have missed on the extent of this Artic push. The big question will be how far south the cold air gets and the track of the low that is currently over Mexico. This is the perfect set up for some southern snow. Hopefully, things will come together and south Mississippi can get some snow. Last snow here on the coast was in Dec 96.......MGC

I'm hoping it all comes together. We had about an inch of snow on New Years day or maybe it was the day after in 2002. Since then, nothing. Oddly, Hattiesburg, 20 miles south of me had 3 inches of snow.
In March 93, I measured 9 inches of snow on the hood of my car. The snow drifts were incredible! The roof of the house we lived in had about a foot drop from the main roof to the carport roof. The snow was even with the house roof where the wind had blown it!
I had spent the day cutting firewood for the old wood burning heater we had. It drizzled rain off and on all day and was cold. That evening we settled down to eat supper and it started sleeting. Of course, supper was forgotten! It must have sleeted for 30 mins or so, long enough to cover the ground. Then the snow began. What was really interesting was the thunder and lightening! I'd never seen thundersnow before! But MAN, was it cold!
Oddly enough, I was out of college on spring break. (yeah, I waited till I was old to go back to school). Needless to say, my family and I enjoyed that snow! I just wish my son had been around then to enjoy it too. The most snowfall he's seen at our house was the inch and half we got in 2001 and of course, the 3 or so at my inlaws in hattiesburg in 2002.
A side note...my wife's sister and her family live in Chattanooga, TN. In the March 93 storm, their snowfall was HUGE. It was waist deep on them.
