Parade of Storms Continues on Gulf Coast

Parade of Storms Continues on Gulf Coast
8AM EST, February 13, 2004

Snow falling in the mountains of west
Texas and New Mexico and a growing
area of rain over southeast Texas early
Friday are foreshadowing the
development of another southern winter
storm later Friday into the weekend.
A stubborn upper level low was
swinging through New Mexico early
Friday will southeast winds ahead of it
were beginning to pull copious moisture
from the Gulf of Mexico.

The upper level low will slowly swing
eastward and a storm is expected form
over the western Gulf tonight, tracking
off the southeast coast late Sunday into
early Monday.

Chilly air has settled into much of the
southern Plains and southeast, which
raises concerns for wintry weather in
areas that rarely experience it. Winter
storm watches and advisories are
already up for a swath from southern
New Mexico through central Texas,
including the Dallas-Fort Worth
metropolitan area.

A WeatherBug live sensor in Mabank,
TX southeast of Dallas reported 26
degrees early Friday, 10 degrees cooler
than the reading at the same time on
Thursday.

Snow accumulations of up to 3 inches
are possible in these areas, with sleet
and freezing rain also causing slick
travel on the southern edge of the
accumulating snow.

If you are being affected by the storm,
share your photos by clicking on the
YourPhotos link to the right under
"Related Content", and see them on
WeatherBug within 24 hours.

The storm could cause slick travel in
the Shreveport, Jackson, Birmingham,
Atlanta and Raleigh areas over the
weekend as colder air slowly works in
and precipitation changes from rain to
snow.
