Cold Air is Heading South, Again

Cold Air is Heading South, Again
10 AM EST, February 13, 2004

This Friday the 13th is turning out to be
a lucky one, at least weather-wise for
much of the northern Plains. That luck
will change over the weekend.

Morning temperature readings Friday
have generally been relatively mild,
considering that many stations
experienced below zero temperatures
Thursday. A WeatherBug live sensor in
Box Elder, South Dakota recorded
temperatures Friday morning nearly 30
degrees warmer than just 24 hours ago.
Breezy and mild air flow is expected
over much of the Plains into the Great
Lakes region Friday. High temperatures
are forecast to reach into the 30`s from
Minneapolis east to Chicago and
Detroit and into the 40`s and 50`s into
the Northern Plains.

Another surge of very cold air will head
south out of Canada Friday night. This
cold front will reach the northern Plains
by Saturday morning and into the
Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, including
New York, Philadelphia and
Washington D.C. by later Saturday
night.

Temperatures are expected to drop
below zero Saturday night from North
Dakota all the way east into Michigan.
Gusty winds are expected along with
the cold air, so wind chill factors will
once again dip to dangerous levels.
A slow moderating trend is then
expected early next week for much of
the central and eastern U.S.

Yeah Ticka I'm afraid our time has run out on this winter unless something really freakish happens. Just look at it this way, next winter our probability of seeing really cold arctic air and snow increase!

I do not believe our time has run out. Remember the Blizzard of 93?

I won't count us out till at least a week or two down the road, but we are definitely getting close.

Last time we had a "heavy" snow(4") in Houston was February 16, 1973. We have had lesser amounts since then but nothing near that "magnitude". February is usually our snow month if we are going to have it.
