Could someone please explain............

#1 Postby NCGal » Sun Feb 15, 2004 2:55 pm

to me why some of our local forecasters have Johnston County, NC under a Winter Storm Advisory and others have us under a Winter Storm Watch??? I have read that we could see a trace to 3 inches, 1-2 inches and then I have read 4-6 inches... What are your thoughts about snowfall totals for me in Johnston County, NC??? And also are we supposed to get any ice? The weather channel says ICY for us. Thanks!!!

Dependant on the zones and also if zones are covered by different WFO's ... some of the offices have more time to further assess the situation and changes will be made forthwith. Warning criteria, I believe is 4" in that region of NC, and if 3" is expected, advisory criteria is met, but not warning ... as for the watch, that means warning criteria snow/wintry precip is POSSIBLE, but not imminent ...
