Bad memory??

It is only Feb 15 and you have already exceeded your snowfall

in 72-73, 75-76, 76-77, 80-81, 84-85, 87-88, 88-89, 90-91, 91-92, 94-95, 97-98, 00-01, 01-02

Here is an idea....Stop calling for MECS everytime the GFS shows qpf over dc in the 300 hr range......

Got to agree to some extent here with Ji -- every event this year has either not materialized or underperformed.

DEC 5-6: Heavy snow for the western burbs Friday morning, but then changed to rain and compacted with some melting, followed by a mere 2-3" with the coastal. JB and DT both called for a foot. Strike 1.

DEC 14: Heavy snow for a few hours in the morning, then heavy rain in the afternoon, leaving a sloppy mess of an inch or two. JB called for 6", DT called for 5-8" followed by ice. Strike 2.

JAN 25-26: All snow, but dry air intruded and prevented totals from exceeding 4-6 inches. JB called for 6"+, DT had us in 6-12". Strike 3 -- this winter is out -- bring on the warmth! :P

Yeah, I know, we could still get a March nor'easter... we'll see.

You should have listened to Keith Allen. He may have been off on his temp forecast, but he nailed the lack of significant snow in DC (ie. several minor events, but nothing big). In fact, he re-affirmed this view 3 weeks ago when everyone was screaming about a stormy/snowy Feb for DC. Perhaps one more chance to burst his bubble during the last few days of Feb?? Otherwise, it's on to March......

Accually HM and Don has been one of the over all best in terms of there seasonal forecasts in the fall.Because I remember in there winter forecasts. One of the things they really did stress out to everyone. That the fruther North and West you go the more snow chances there are this year.Verses the further south the more r/s line problems your see.And in deed that has happen. As South of Philly has been right on that line.R/s line problems on most of the systems this year. And also they were both right in there calls in that the over all average would be warmer then last years winter. But the cold air masses would beat out some of the cold air mass we saw last year.Another very good call. Some of the cold shots have been very impresseive in the Northeast this year and parts of the Middle Alantic. So while some of there calls may have been delayed with the MJO and cold periolds and warm periolds. This winter has pretty much followed there ideal's with just some timing differents here and there.

Now its wrait and see game now on what happens the rest of Feuarey and March.Because it does have major possabley for this winter to go out with a bang.So it not over until its over.Remember March can feautre some big storms. And has happen before. So its not over.

Thanks for the kind words, Weatherfan. RNS has been outstanding this winter, as well. I don't know if you saw his forecast but it was a very good one as far as things have gone so far.

Brett,

Hang in there. In this case, I believe patience will prove to be a virtue.

PHL has been in the screw zone also this year as usual. I am starting to enjoy missing all the decent events. This one looks to be another near miss, but to the east this time.

I thought RNS lived in southern California and is a friend of Joshua's.

How I know this...I'm also a member over at The Storm Room and RNS and Joshua are members there, too.

Well, I could have sworn Joshua wrote in a post one time at The Storm Room that RNS lives in southern CA...guess I misread or couldn't understand Joshua's particular post...

Thank you Erica for posting here. I have REALLY enjoyed your knowledgeable weather posts!! :) :)

As for this latest storm................It's been simply breathtaking how unimaginably close we have been to storm after storm after storm here in Woodbridge VA. This one featured snow only miles away. WOW. All I can say is I am glad we got all these missed storms out of the way so next winter we can hopefully actually get to see some good accumulating snow.

6:00 PM Update from the NW DC Suburbs

Clouds have thickened as the coastal storm is beginning to strengthen. Precipitation is just far enough southeast so as to shaft the DC-area members here... Jeb and Cheesy are both painfully close to the snow, while I am about 35 miles northwest of it. We're not missing too much, though, since even lower southern Maryland shouldn't pick up more than a few inches out of this.
