Winter Weather Summary
POSTED: February 20, 2004 8:54 a.m.

Storm System Brings Snow and Ice to Upper Midwest and Great Lakes...

A storm will track across northern Illinois, through lower Michigan and into eastern Canada by tomorrow morning. North and west of the storm track, snow and ice will be a problem. The heaviest snow amounts over the next 24 hours will be on the eastern part of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and northernmost lower Michigan. Six to as much as 12 inches may accumulate there. Much of the rest of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan will have 3-6 inches, as will parts of northern Wisconsin. Northern Iowa into southern Wisconsin will have 1-3 inches. A small, slushy accumulation is possible as far south as Indiana and Ohio as well as toward the west slopes of the Appalachians late tonight as colder air tries to catch up with the moisture.

Moisture running over top of a cold air mass will lead to some snow and ice in central and northern New York state as well as in northern New England. Snow and ice amounts will total generally 1-3 inches.

Out in the West, the Sierra Nevada Mountains will end up with 3-6 inches of new snow by tomorrow morning. One to three inches will fall in central Nevada, the mountains of Utah and south into the mountains of northern Arizona.
