winter storm in nw kansas, ne colorado on northward

#1 Postby WXBUFFJIM » Sun Feb 29, 2004 7:08 pm

On the warm side of this 992 mb storm, severe wx is occurring in Omaha, NE and near Salina's, Kansas as of 7 PM EST this evening. On the cold side of this storm, heavy snow and blizzard conditions take hold. I 76 in northeast Colorado is reportedly shut down due to whiteout conditions. 6-12 inches of snow is expected in northeast Colorado with 3-6 inches in extreme northwest Kansas. This snow combined with wind gusts of 45-50 mph will cause zero visibility with the heavy snow and blowing snow combined. Blizzard warnings are in effect from western Nebraska and eastern Wyoming southward into northeast Colorado and into extreme northwest Kansas. Blizzard conditons have been reported with this storm today from western Nebraska into northeast Colorado. Visibility could drop to near zero and make travel next to impossible in these areas. Avoid travel if at all possible tonight until this weather clears.
