Overnight Snowstorm

#1 Postby simplykristi » Wed Nov 24, 2004 6:39 am

Hi All,
We had a snowstorm overnight here in the KC area. It looks like three to four inches of snow. It is a heavy wet snow. I looked outside and everything is covered in snow. There are scateered power outages throughout the area. Getting to work this morning will be a lot of fun - NOT!

Hi Kristi!!! Glad to see a post from you. :)

I heard that KC is having some sporadic power problems. That is usually the case in a snow this early when several trees still have lots of their leaves. Hope you made it to work safely!!!

That will be a big problem throughout the snowstorm - the dynamic cooling associated with the rapid uplift will allow for very heavy snow later this afternoon. I wouldn't be surprised to see 2-3"/hr rates with very big snowflakes (and thunder?) later this afternoon in parts of IL and NW IN. Anywhere snow falls, there is rather large chance of power outages and downed trees owing to the heavy, wet nature of the snow. Travel in and out of O'Hare may be a nightmare later this afternoon.

Hey everybody!! I finally have something to post about!! Kristi is right-quite a surprise snow storm last night!!! We had Thunder/Lightening and snow here in Lawrence-wound up with about 6 inches!!! Great fun with my boys although it is melting fast with temps already in the 40's. I really feel for the local mets and NWS of KC-they were getting hammered on talk radio this morning-the NWS in topeka bit on the storm by about 3:00 P.M. with a snow advisory and then upped it by 8:00 with a 2-4 inch prediction-KC kept it an inch untill 8:00 P.M.-they really can't win-it is so hard to predict snow here-a 20 mile wobble either way and your whole forecast is blown in an hour!!! Have a great day-I'm off to play with the kids again-I'll be bass fishing again by Friday with temps in the 50's-possibly another storm by Monday which as of now seems close to the same track-still way far off!!! Hopefully this track keeps in place this winter-we may ahve a good one here in the central plains!!!

We ended up with 5 to 7 inches of snow here yesterday morning. I had to take my dog outside yesterday morning and she did not like it all. (You would not like it either if you were a 3 1/2 pound Chihuahua. :) )

This is only the 10th time in 100 years that we've had a white Thanksgiving here in KC.

It took me about 55 mins to get to work yesterday AM.

Alright, ship it UPS Next Day. I need enough snow to cover my front lawn about 12 inches deep.

Yeah I do, I'd be digging all the Lake Effect snow out of Buffalo and saving the tax payers there millions of dollars a year. I'd be savoring numerous snowy jebwalks during every Lake Effect Snow event too!!
