I - 40 safe from Burlington NC to Asheville??

#1 Postby floodprone » Tue Dec 14, 2004 12:12 pm

Daughter is driving home from school today and it's snowy and icy at our place. If she drives between noon and 4pm will the roads be clear of ice? Roads to our home were close to inaccessible this morning but being new to the area I don't know what to expect this afternoon?

From NWS-Spartanburg:

A PASSING UPPER DISTURBANCE...COMBINED WITH A STRONG NORTHWEST FLOW
OF LOW LEVEL MOISTURE...PRODUCED SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS GENERALLY
RANGING FROM A DUSTING TO AROUND AN INCH FROM ASHEVILLE TO FRANKLIN
AND POINTS SOUTH. FLURRIES WILL SLOWLY TAPER OFF ACROSS THIS REGION
THROUGH THE AFTERNOON.

WITH TEMPERATURES GENERALLY REMAINING BELOW FREEZING ACROSS MOST
MOUNTAIN LOCATIONS TODAY...VERY SLIPPERY ROAD CONDITIONS WILL PERSIST
THROUGH THE DAY. GUSTY NORTHWEST WINDS WILL FURTHER MAKE TRAVEL
DIFFICULT THROUGH THE AFTERNOON.

USE CAUTION IF YOU MUST TRAVEL TODAY ON ROADWAYS AFFECTED BY THE
LIGHT SNOWFALL. ALLOW PLENTY OF EXTRA TIME TO REACH YOUR
DESTINATION...AND BE ESPECIALLY CAREFUL ON STEEP GRADES.
