The return/arrival of winter??
With temps expected to be much above normal for most of this week, the coming systems may bring back winter, or the arrival of winter for some during the next week. Most models are showing the large arrival of cold arctic air throughout much of the northern plains. The latest NCEP long range forecasts does show much below normal temps through 6-10 days and the 8-14 day outlooks. This may mean temps well below zero once again for the plains. Besides just this cold air, an above normal amount of precip is expected to be in the ohio valley as well as areas of the midwest. THis is also shown in both of the NCEP outlooks. Thoughts about the fact winter may finally arrive and stay??

I hope so!!! The weather in Kansas City/Lawrence has been so bland!!! 48 Hours of cold temps. does not wet my appetite esp. knowing it was going to warm up in three days!!!! Next week looks more like winter-I think you North will be in a better position for snow as the rain/snow line looks like it will set up over me and we have a chance at some ice-it all depends on how far south that cold air goes-the Euro doesn't really have it down here for another 9 days (the Monday 500 temps. look incred. warm for here, but the arctic air is comming) the GFS has it down here by Monday-which do you believe-For sure, next week looks better and the GFS trends this cold air all the way out till the 384 where it gets warm again. Not to believe the GFS, but it has had some good ideas on trends-eg-it proggerd the warmth this week about 10 days ago-By this Thursday-Friday we should have a better look-we can also begin to plot the cold air by looking at temps. and sat pictures and see what's on the move. Again, next week really bears watching-by the way, our NWS is not to thrilled about rain chances Thursday-that Arctic high from last week still has the Gulf bottleled up!!

12z GFS says I don't think so... as 500 mb heights are HIGH east of Mississippi River as the 570 DM passes from DC to NYC at 216 hrs...
