"Significant snowfall"

#1 Postby Brent » Tue Jan 18, 2005 8:07 am

In or near Gatlinburg while I'm there this weekend.

:woo: :bd:

A WEAK FRONT WILL MOVE ACROSS THE REGION THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND NIGHT
WITH ANOTHER CHANCE OF RAIN/SNOW SHOWERS...HOWEVER...STRONGER SYSTEM
IS DEPICTED BY THE MEDIUM RANGE MODELS FOR SATURDAY AND SUNDAY.
CURRENT THINKING IS THAT INITIAL SURFACE LOW WILL MOVE NORTH OF THE
FORECAST AREA BEFORE REDEVELOPING OFF THE CAROLINA COASTS SUNDAY
MORNING. A MIX BAG OF RAIN AND SNOW IS EXPECTED. COULD BE SOME
SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL ACROSS THE FAR EASTERN TENNESSEE MOUNTAINS AND
POSSIBLY SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY MORNING.

Excited for you and your family Brent!!! Hopefully it will be a winter wonderland for your trip - in town and on the slopes (well, I'm sure they make their own snowfall there).

Now I'm worried we'll be stuck at the hotel the whole time, LOL

Naw - it's a touristy area! They'll clear streets ASAP I imagine.

Great to see the folks in the south having the possibility of seeing some snow! Based on both of the NWS forecast discussions as of this morning, do you think this will also bode well for GA and the Carolinas for seeing some good snowfall?

Extreme North Georgia and the mountains of NC, yes, otherwise, no.

25.9 here

I'm in East Central Alabama on the Georgia line, I'm in the middle of the state pretty much, about equal distance from Tennessee as it is to Florida.

the tables have turned...

I also ended up with about an inch of light snow...just enough to cause some slippery spots...

36F now...wow...its been just climbing all day...

funny, within one degree of New Orleans 37F, which also sits along the Mississippi like i do...
