Ohio Valley Snowfall Forecast

#1 Postby ohiostorm » Wed Jan 19, 2005 12:12 am

I think the guys at the NWS are a little scared this time around here. The last clipper they issued Winter Weather Advisories and predicted 2 to 4 inches. We werent even close to that! I ended up with 1.6" here. This next clipper is MUCH bigger and more potent. I think they are holding back to avoid another bust. I am going out on a limb here and predicted 3 to 6 inches for East Central Ohio. I may be wrong because it happens but this storm is much bigger and I have a feeling its going to suprise the guys at the NWS. Any thoughts??

All I can compare it to is our last system down here in TX. Looking only at radar and the speed of the system I would say you are well within the ballpark and maybe a little low for some areas. If the temps continue to rise ahead of the system, as they have in your area, that would indicate some moistening of the atmosphere which would enhance totals some. The radar returns sure look as potent as or more potent than what we saw here in TX, but the system is moving much faster.

Same here in Pittsburgh! Plummeting pressure and rising temps. They're calling for 1 to 3 inches here. We got about 2 with the last clipper system that didnt seem as strong as this one, like you said. I'm hoping this one is wimpy compared to the potential weekend storm. Good to see winter finally returning.

I think they could at least raise the totals to 2 to 4 inches with this one. Its moving quick but snow bands are far stronger then last storm.

Now I see why they forecasted 1 to 3 inches. So my forecast is bust. Bring on the big system!

Only 1 to 3 being forecasted for Eastern KY too :(

I hope they are wrong or holding off until they know more.

We had minor snowfall accumulations Tuesday after midnight into this morning. Just enough for this school bus to flip and injure 5 people. The pictures say it all.

We often joke so many rural school districts delay or cancel at the first snowflake but just seeing this bus on it's side is a sobering image.

I didn't want to start a new thread for this article. So I thought this might be a good place for it?

Definately. Around here theres so many hills and back roads that they cancelled school very quickly. People up along the lakes laugh when we cancelled for a half inch of snow and they dont for 2 feet.
