Forecasts for East KY in February?

#1 Postby Matt31388 » Tue Jan 25, 2005 3:08 pm

I am starved for a big snowfall. The biggest snow we've had this year gave us about 3 1/2 inches.

What is your prediction for East KY in February?

Matt,

The last week has seen the snowfall really pick up across eastern Kentucky especially. This is right on cue with the way I thought winter would play out.

February should deliver several snow chances to eastern Kentucky. Many of the winters that have been similar to this one have seen above average snowfall for February. The combined effect of a -NAO and weak el nino conditions should combine to provide at least one good dumping of snow. The sub-tropical jet is starting to show signs of life again and may start cranking yet again. The difference this go around will be the -NAO which would force the low track farther south and eastward than we have been seeing.

Take care!
