It's Snowing--Again--on the Cape!

#1 Postby Persepone » Fri Jan 28, 2005 11:21 am

This is getting ridiculous. A couple of inches on the ground and it's snowing... Expected sun today...
NWS says (see below) not a lot of accumulation, but perhaps they will come and shovel the "not a lot"...

Maybe you should rename your town? Mt. Washington-Cape or Alaska-Cape?

Hang in there....Spring will come!!!

I love snow but I think by now I'd be getting tired of all you had!

There was a story on our Fox news channel this morning. From an area in Mass. that got slammed with snow - Plymouth maybe. An 85 year old lady gets up at 4 a.m. to shovel not only her driveway and sidewalk, but her neighbors as well. She's this little spry thing and doesn't seem anywhere near her exact age. She says she shovels, goes in for coffee to take a break, back out for more shoveling, back in for more coffee and so on. They interviewed one neighbor, guessing in his 30s, and he said when he's shoveled next to her, she made a 4 foot wide path down her long driveway and he hadn't made any headway..well, if you see this segment on your local news, watch it! More power to her I say...hope to be that active when I'm 85!

Geez... I am a big snow lover, but I think I'd get sick of it. When we left TN Tuesday, there was still some snow and I was getting tired of looking at it(it fell Saturday Evening).

What is the point of winter if there is no snow? Shovel it (duh), go for walks in it, play in it, take pics of it, look for animal tracks in it, catch the flakes on black paper and see how cool each one looks, and just enjoy it! You are in one of my favorite winter places, look around and find the beauty of winter on the cape!
Can you tell that I am one of those annoying people who finds the good/fun in anything if it is possible? I actually enjoy shovelling, and yes, I have shovelled amounts like you have right now! Spent my first 20 years in central Connecticut and my second 20 here in North Jersey, I am no stranger to shovelling!

I used to live in the city and somehow it is not as awful in the city because you have neighbors, etc. out and about. Shoveling snow in the city is a sort of friendly activity.

Here there is no one around. We are the snow shovelers--and we are clear so we can get out, and we keep the street's fire hydrant clear, etc. and we did snowblow and shovel paths so the elderly people next door could get out of their house... It's not the shoveling, I guess, but a sort of amazement because "it never snows on Cape Cod." My daughter get this type of snow in New Hampshire all the time. So it's not the snow amounts--or even the work involved in dealing with it--but the isolation. My daughter has neighbors...

I've actually fond memories a couple of snowy winters in the 1990s in CT. My husband was on the road a lot during those years. And it seemed that every time I dropped him off at the airport, coming home it would start to snow... And I'd get out the shovel. And just about the time I had it totally clear, he would return. But the next time he would head out, I'd drop him off, and coming home it would start to snow... At one point I calculated that I'd shoveled 103 inches of snow and he had not lifted a single shovel of snow all winter... But it was sort of fun because the neighborhood was out shoveling... And we actually had to shovel out our entire street because we were literally the last street on the town's list (it was one block long) and we all had to be out and at work long before the plows got to our street...

Then there are the weather reports that tell us that the sun is shining--everywhere but here, I guess. I feel like that little emoticon with the cloud over its head! But that is probably because, at heart, I am a "city" person and don't like living in the suburbs much. I have to say that Cape Cod is a very unfriendly place to move to. And I've lived in several other countries, as well as many parts of the US--and this is the first time I've ever felt like I was living on the moon or something. People are friendlier in other countries--even if you don't speak the language--than they are here. And I guess it took this snowstorm to make me resolve to get the hell out of here. That is sort of sad because for once we have a "perfect" house in a wonderful (geographical) location. But I'll move in a heartbeat as soon as I get the chance.

Maybe we all have a need to go home, as I would move back to New England in a heartbeat. I am sorry to hear that you are unhappy on the cape!
