NOAA and east coast snow storms

#1 Postby EXTONPA » Fri Feb 25, 2005 12:33 am

NOAA has not done a great job this year forcasting east coast snowstorms; do they rely too much on the GFS? If you look at all of the storms to hit new england this winter, NOAA predicted a more southernly track in the preceding days, not catching on to the correct path until the last minute. Anyhow, just an observation.

GFS/computers are great for observation, but we have allowed them to take over the job and effort of the human analysis needed. If you look at and understand your current climatalogical conditions, you'll know exactly what lies ahead in the future.

I agree Ed. Seems like reliance on computer models has hit an all time high this winter! Even the folks over at Accuweather seem to be too preoccupied with the models....
