NWS in DC is in the process of lowering their storm estimates. It may not be a complete washout or bust, but it's looking like the DC metro area will be lucky to wring 3-6 inches out of this storm. That's not horrible, except when the expectations were for 6-10 with the chance for even more.
Overall, in my book, that is approaching a busted forecast, but many of the local mets during the 11pm news last night were more in the 4-7 range, so that is certainly closer to what will actually transpire. As a snow love, I woke up this morning and I could feel something was wrong (too much experience being disappointed) and then I looked out and there was nothing so far.
I know this will sound like sour grapes to folks in areas who rarely get snow, but if it's not going to be a solid 7 or 8 inches (when it is predicted) I would just as soon see it miss completely. Overall, this winter in DC has been extremely disappointing.

This was definitely a bust for the major cities. Here's the problem...it's almost March, the sun angle is high and the daytime heating is alot more substantial. If this were the beginning of February, things would be different. I just talked to my aunt who lives in Brooklyn, New York and it's been snowing all day...but they have a slushy accumulation of 2 inches...nothing's sticking on the roads. Unfortunately there's no arctic high just to the north that is dragging that cold air down. At last report, it's 34F in Boston. Forecasters definitely miscalculated this. But I had a feeling something like this may happen.

It's 3.5" here outside Baltimore with side streets snow covered and slushy. It's not over yet, but it's not crippling either. A beautiful wet snowy scene though, good enough for digital photography.
It's almost March 1st. Consider ourselves lucky to see 6 inches or more of snow in alot of cases in DC and Baltimore unless it's night time with no solar radiation.
I'll talk more on the digital pics later.
