Cincy local Mets explain forecast goofs, wx forecasts.......

#1 Postby Miss Mary » Sat Mar 05, 2005 8:13 am

Front page article, front and center in today's paper. Pictured are 4 Chief Met's, all responsible for putting out wx forecasts. Overall, there have been several misses this winter, and I imagine all 4 felt compelled to 'explain'.....read on if you're interested! Psst, the top left corner Rich Apuzzo is pictured. He's the local Met that hypes his forecasts the most. He predicted the "Storm of the Century" days from when it was to hit. And did it hit - NO! I was surprised that 'forecast' wasn't mentioned in the article, b/c everyone was talking about it in town. LOL And I should add that IMHO, and Jeremy shares it, Channel 12 is the most trusted Met team for accurrate forecasts. You can ignore that link below where another channel boast they're #1.......nah, read it if you want. This has been an interesting winter, mainly b/c overall there have been 3 big misses/goofs I can think of. Channel 12 missed one right along with the other 3, something that rarely if ever happens!

Jeremy - this topic and links are for you too! Enjoy.....hey, maybe one day you'll be featured in an article like this? Certainly hope so!

You did. 5 radars...I agree with both Channel 9 and 12's chief mets...too many for any one station IMO. You can have 1 or 2 and still miss something and have a busted forecast or hit everything and just nail the forecast. Which everyone did miss on the December snow, especially north and west of town. Channel 9 as most accurate? Depends on when they did their research. I look at that as marketing.

I thought 5 radars was excessive but what did I know. Thanks for the confirmation that's 3 too many. I just thought the Power of 5 (Ch. 5) was some catchy slogan....since I follow Channel 12 only. They're still the best, hands down.

The only problem with following only 12 is this...

NO SUNDAY MORNING forecasts!

Not enough staff probably, I don't know. I have to rely on Channels 5 and 9 on Sunday mornings. Which I hate to do. But either one is better than not being able to get local weather at all.
