Winter to make a "BIG" come back to the Midwest!!!

#1 Postby Gothpunk-IL-WX » Sat Mar 05, 2005 6:14 pm

Hello Everybody, I'm back after a expected period of busy school time. I'll probably be posting often for the next several days. It appears that tomorrow will be a hot one by early march standards, but nothing unheard of. 60s and 70s will be dominate, somebody may even hit at or close to 80 degrees especially in Kansas or Missouri. After a warm day the night might light up with some scattered strong storms with the passage of a powerful cold front. The front will be lacking moisture so no big severe weather outbreak is expected at this time. After the front passage things clear up temporary until tuesday with colder air moving in, think seasonable or slightly below. Tuesday night sees a fairly potent storm system or clipper diving southeastward into Missouri and illinois where it could pick up a nice amount of moisture and produce some snowfall. It's hard to tell how much for sure, but based on GFS precipation quanity amounts, about 3-5 inches with some isolated 6 inch amounts are possible especially around and east of the Saint Louis, MO metro. Of course this may change, but the GFS has been very consistant with this for quiet a few days now. After that another clipper comes through bringing rain at first then a quick burst of Heavy snow again for southern and central Missouri and the southern half of Illinois with a few more inches possible. Temperatures should be below normal for this time period. So winter isn't quiet over for the midwest, there is one more blast before the spring finally settles in around day 13 and beyond. So enjoy the next 2 weeks, they could be rewarding for desprite "Snow Bunnies".

Good Morning everyone, Just a quick update on the clipper on Tuesday. The 06 UTC models don't agree this morning and seem to want to focus all of the precipation out of the midwest and into the southern plains, given current strength of the cold air, I'm buying into that. It appears that nobody else has so far. The 12 UTC may bring back the snows to Missouri and Illinois/ Kansas area by then. This is relating to the Tuesday Night Clipper not the tonight and Monday one. The National weather service wants to bring around a half inch with this thing while Accuweather wants to bring a fairly large area of 3-6 inches plus in a area from Southern Missouri into southwestern Indiana. Not buying both yet, but am thinking right now that snowfall totals will be in between or around 2-4 inches seems good at the moment. Given the nature of the storm the heaviest snowfalls will be to the north and northeast of the center od circulation. More later once the 12 UTC runs come out.

Good News, the 12UTC models have focus the precipation back north into the southern and eastern Midwest, the NAM bringing the farthest north, and the GFS the midway. Think it's still just a tad to far south, but things will clear up as we approach monday night and tuesday. The system after this one doesn't however look so healthy anymore and it appears it will cause only a few rain and or snow showers. but this event is still 5 days away. After that another warm up then a "big" spring like storm followed by more cold and one more chance for a big snowstorm on the 16th before we QUICKLY warm into a late spring weather pattern, hence the prediction I made a few weeks ago. Stay tuned for more updates later tonight.
