Light Snow, Blowing Wind Cause Huge Problems

#1 Postby nystate » Sun Mar 06, 2005 2:17 pm

Saw numerous cars off of the road earlier today, and looks like there was a major accident as well. These pictures aren't mine, they are from http://www.newzjunky.com.

Roads Bad; Child Dies In Sunday Accident
Sunday, March 06, 2005, 12:54pm
The Jefferson County sheriff's department urged motorists to stay off the roads Sunday afternoon as a storm swept through Jefferson County, making travel dangerous.

In fact, slippery roads were apparently responsible for the death of a child who was killed around 11:30 Sunday morning in a collision on Route 342 in the Town of Pamelia.

The accident happened on 342 between routes 11 and 37, and involved a car and another vehicle - from the looks of the first pictures, another car or small truck or SUV.

"It's very, very nasty out here. The weather changed rather quickly this morning which caused the road conditions to deteriorate before crews could keep up with them," said Jefferson County undersheriff Larry Jobson.

Officials believe one car lost control and slid into the side of the other vehicle.

Two adults and the child were taken to Samaritan Medical Center. Their identities were not made public as of 12:50 pm Sunday.

Investigators said that portion of 342 would be closed for much of the day.
