Tomorrow will see a strong cold front move off the East Coast but slow in its progression eastward. At the same time, there is now a strong model consensus that secondary development will occur along that front. This storm will likely bomb out as it heads from off the Delmarva to near or just off Cape Cod.
As a result, moderate to heavy rain will likely change to a brief period of moderate or even heavy snow as temperatures plunge.
My initial estimates for accumulations are:
Baltimore: Coating to locally 1"
Boston: 3"-7" (needs 1.8" snowfall to reach 80")
New York City: 1"-3" (needs 3.0" snowfall to reach 40")
Newark: 1"-3"
Philadelphia: 2" or less (needs 0.1" snowfall to reach 30")
Providence: 2"-5"
Washington, DC: Coating to locally 1"
White Plains: 1"-3"
Downeast Maine could see widespread amounts over 10" as the storm continues to bomb out during its passage through the Gulf of Maine.
A bitter shot of air should follow with temperatures falling into the teens for Wednesday morning from Philadelphia to Boston. Another storm could impact parts of the East Coast later Friday and Saturday.
