Heavy snow in D.C.

#1 Postby Lowpressure » Tue Mar 08, 2005 10:36 am

Snow falling hard for a while now, temp dumped 20 degrees in one hour! It is 29 degrees at Dulles with moderate to heavy blowing snow. Manassas has over one inch on the ground and still coming down moderately. Wind is nasty, blowing up to around 35 mph. Snow is sticking to the roads, even with 68 degrees yesterday. Any treated surfaces were washed clean from the early morning rain. Roads are going to get bad. Going down to 19 tonight. Caught LWX a little off guard. They called for a light dusting, but not this.

At 1030 am here in Crystal City VA, visibility 1/8 mile in moderate to heavy snow, windy, accumulations 1 inch on grass, 1/2 inch on decks and untreated pavement, covered parking lots and cars, wet roads becoming slushy. VDOT may have also been caught on the hop...

Sounds about like the surprise half inch that really caught Raleigh and Wake County way off guard on January 19th...eventual packed ice road and street "parking lots!"

EXTREMELY heavy snow in Richmond. However, it isn't sticking to any surfaces and no accumulation is expected. If it hadn't rained, though, it'd be a VERY different story...

No, you give me a break! Actually, I want spring now, but if YOU THINK ABOUT IT, we had the Superstorm of 1993 and many other snowy days in March where it did hang around for a few days. Also, there maybe something else on the horizon for this weekend.

I know that you're pissed off about not getting any snow down where you are, but don't take it out on everyone else!

Bob...I feel your pain! We are sitting at 70 frikkin degrees here. We are talking 10 miles away from the mountains in the northern half of Washington State! I just can't take much more of this! This bloody blocking pattern is delivering all of the goodies to the the NE and Midwest and we are getting NOTHING!!!

It is so reassuring that we will not have to watch everybody else getting it for much longer. No doubt...the clock is ticking...the sun is getting more powerful...winter is ending! I am looking forward to a horrible spring here, to make up for all of this!

I wouldn't want to be stuck in a blizzard, that's for sure! The poor guy probably never realized how bad it was going to be.

snow-wizard - I honestly can say, you can have it! We are currently having 40 mph gusts and the snow that we did get is drifting. The temperature dropped so quickly, that everything that did fall, froze. It was like a skating rink out there on the way home with numerous accidents. My driveway, which is on an incline is totally frozen. I had to walk on the lawn through the snow to get to my front door.

We were very lucky to have this storm move as fast as it did and not blow up until it was past us.

I'm sure he didn't have a clue how bad it was going to be. Right up until late that Friday night, our weather persons were not predicting even snow...much less accumulations of 1ft++.

No body in GA prepared for that storm...so it's not surprising anyone died in it. It was a monster even this far south!
