Seasons First Snow for parts of the North and West.

#1 Postby CaptinCrunch » Mon Oct 03, 2005 12:30 pm

A powerful Cold front moving down from Canada will bring the first snows of the coming winter season across parts of North Dakota, NW South Dakota, Central Montana and Northwestern Minnesota with temps dropping into the upper 20's and lower 30's and high temps in the upper 40's.

The Seasons first Winter Weather advisories have been issued for Central Montana, and Northern Utah. The strong cold front is expected to push into the Southern States by late Wednesday bringing a much needed relief from the above normal high temps that have been the norm since mid September. High's across OK. and North Texas will be in the 60's Thursday with lows in the mid 50's. Another shot of cool air is expected by early next week keeping temps in the mid to upper 70's across parts of the South including North Texas.

LOL - both are awful! As long as I get it replaced in the next week it should be ok though. Honestly, I have been without both heat and a/c, and I would pick heat as being more important any day up here. My a/c was out during the summer for a few 90+° days, and it was uncomfortable; but livable. If my heat is out for a few days at 20° or so, we would have to find somewhere else to stay and my pipes might freeze.

Of course, MN probably isn't as humid as Florida at 90°, either LOL.

Lookin for 12-18" of accumulation mostly in ND although much of this will melt given the warm ground temps of early fall.

It's Not Unusual For Snow In October !!!

#6 Postby JETSTREAM BOB » Tue Oct 04, 2005 11:11 am

I don't know why all the hype,it's not unusual for it to snow in October in the Rocky Mts., to be honest we have had snow flurries in the Appalachians in October...So calm down and enjoy why you have it,because the pattern will change to the east after the first part of December....

It is unusual, however, for us to get snow in the eastern ND/northwest Minnesota areas this early - not unheard of, but not the norm, either. We went from high 70's & 80's over the weekend to low to mid 40's around here today. I prefer the weekend's weather, myself :hmm:

JB,

Snow in the Rockies in October is not unusual, at least not for mid to late Oct. This is a large winter system and heavy snow for MN, ND, SD, WY, is unusual for this early in the season (4th of October) and to get as much as 10" in some areas is very unusual.

As far as the Appalachians go, snow flurries in late October are common in the high elevations, and as for the East goes this winter, well the jury is still out on that forecast.
