Its a sign of great thing to come!

Its started to fall at Big White!!! Great season ahead when it starts this early!! Already a 16 cm base, a whole six inches!. Where I live the mountian gets an annual snowfall of 750 cm (294" or 24.5 ft average). I do expect more this year for sure! The summit is at 2,319 m (7,606ft). Its going to be fun. The pics here are from in October, I will keep them coming through out the year as well as the ones from my house.

We are also getting our first snows down here in Washington. Mt. Baker has a base of 24" all ready and Stevens has 6". Here are pictures from Mt. Baker: http://www.mtbaker.us/snowreport/index.html

Crystal Mountain is set to open up Friday as well, their earliest opening in over a decade. I imagine all the other ski resorts are going to follow right behind with several more feet expected between now and the end of the weekend. http://komotv.com/stories/40024.htm

EDIT: Mt. Baker also received another 14" of snow on top of the 24" they all ready had. If they open next week or even the week after that, it will be their earliest opening in over a decade.

Usually Mt. Baker and our other ski resorts get a few storms like that as well. Last year Mt. Baker got 90" from one storm and it actually helped pull our terrible snow season together at the end. Back in 1998-99 when they set the world record for most snow in one season at 1140", they had to close down the ski resort because the snow covered the chair lifts. What a difference a few years can make (last year they only got 430" which is a lot, but they average around 600"-700") Hopefully this year ends up closer to 1140" rather than 430".

EDIT: Most ski resorts are expecting 1-2 feet of snow out of this next system, and Baker is hoping for localized 3-4 feet. On the higher parts of the ski resort they all ready have over 40" so it seems they are off to a good start this year.
