Should I Hold My Breath?

#1 Postby breeze » Thu Feb 09, 2006 7:54 pm

We've had the usual "Flurries possible..." "Possibility of wintry mix..."
yadda-yadda forecasts for weeks, now. But, now that the cold air is
really in place, I'm wondering if I should be as non-chalant about this?

No. If you hold your breath for too long, you could die.

Also, I think this is your chance of getting good accumulation of snowfall. This storm system means business, I think you could be in for a suprise.

I sure hope you're right! I'd like to see a good snow, this weekend - I've been
joking all along about, "I'll hold my breath for this", but, this one doesn't look
near as "iffy" as other systems that have moved through, so far.

Well, take some pictures and post them for us the unfortunate. It crossed my mind to "storm chase" if things look interesting enough, being it's the weekend and all, but I'll probably just "chill".

I've had to travel to see snow the last 2 years. In February 2004, we went to the highest point in the state(about an hour and a half drive) to see snow and then last January we went to Gatlinburg and it just happened to snow while there, but both times it was just enough to cover the ground. I'm going to go into one of these big snows in the Northeast one day. 8-)

Re: The original topic... I'd say your chances are at least 65/35 for seeing at least some snow... and 50/50 for a significant accumulation(more than 3 inches).

Breathe every onece in a while. This system does appear to be winding up and you are on the good side for some significant winter weather. Of course if it tracks further South you may have less or if it tracks to far North you could get more rain than snow, at least in the beginning.

I realize this is not you...but it might make you feel better to see what one of the local mets is putting on as the "new" forecast.

LOL, no worry folks - I started breathing when we were put under a "Heavy Snow
Warning"! Hey, Mempho, I'm in the 3"-5" according to the Memphis
channel - do you see the Highway 64 sign under the I-40 sign, just
west of Nashville? I'm just a smidge up from the top right corner
of the 64 sign, on the border of those counties. I understand that
you folks have already gotten a good inch of the white stuff on
the ground. And, it's supposed to be a wet snow - I can't
wait to make my snowman!

You know - I'm looking at the radar, and, the snow/sleet line keeps backing
away from us - it's still raining - my outside temp shows right at 32°F.... the low
tonight is forecast for 29°F - I do believe that the moisture may be out of
here before then... :?:  Dang! I've been doin' the snow dance,
all day!

I've noticed the same thing....We actually warmed (at the same reporting station) from 32 to 34 after the snow started falling (and we had NW winds occuring)

I take back my previous statement - since I last posted, a friend dropped by
and said, "Look outside!" Well, the snow is coming down, and, the ground
is almost covered! :cheesy:
