Ironic pattern.... again

#1 Postby Jim Cantore » Mon Feb 13, 2006 1:01 pm

We've had major blizzards in ten year intervals

1993 and 2003
1996 and 2006

Just like we've had major U.S hurricanes in ten year intervals

1969 (Camille)
1979 (David and Frederic)
1989 (Hugo)
1999 (Floyd)

or...

1950 (King)
1960 (Donna)
1970 (Celia)
1980 (Allen)

or...

1954 (Carol, Edna, and Hazel)
1964 (Dora, Hilda, and Isbell)
1974 (Carmen)
1984 (Diana)

or...

1947 (Fort Lauderdale/Palm Beach)
1957 (Audrey)
1967 (Beluah)

Heres the mother of them all

1935 (The Labor Day Hurricane)
1945 (Hurricanes #5 and 9)
1955 (Connie and Diane)
1965 (Betsy)
1975 (Eloise)
1985 (Elena and Gloria)
1995 (Opal)
2005 (Dennis, Katrina, Ophelia, Rita, and Wilma)

what is it with ten year intervals?

While this pattern is interesting, it really doesn't take into account the fact that storms of unusual power occurred outside the 10-year cycle you mention. Camile in 1969, for example, or the 2004 hurricane season.
