The Buffalo area was surprised one year ago tomorrow (Friday the 13th) with 2 feet of destructive lake effect snow. Somewhere around 400,000 people were left without power. 13 people were killed as a result.

Schools were closed for a whole week in some areas too. I remember on the news from the area people were saying that in the middle of the night, they could hear gun-shot like noises every few minutes or something and there was thunder and lightning with it. A very early winter pattern had set in for a brief period of time and there was some LES for Ontario as well.

Lake effect snow dumps a lot of snow in one area, while others see just a flurry or two. Lake effect snow in many ways is like heavy rain events in Southeast Texas. Some parts see heavy rain, while some see just light rain.
