Mid to late February threat in N. Tx?

#1 Postby Texas Snowman » Fri Jan 25, 2008 11:34 am

New to the board, live near the Red River in North Texas.

Waste of cold and moisture this morning, barely any ice in the trees. Didn't want a full-blown ice storm, but a little sleet and a day off from school for the kids would have been nice.

Anyway, noticed that on the other Texas winter thread a mention was made about a potential storm in N. Texas in a couple of weeks. I think that the GFS snow model on AW is up to its old tricks showing some snow about that timeframe.

But, also noticed that Joe B. has mentioned that the end game of winter may be one to remember. And this a.m., he mentioned the coldest air of the season building in the Yellow Knife region.

Any thoughts on whether N. Texas might have a shot at Arctic cold and snow after the Super Bowl? :cold: :froze:

Welcome to the board Texas Snowman. As for you question, I've learned to believe it when I see it. Today only reinforces that approach. ;)

Thanks for the welcome.

Yeah, I know, anticipating a two-week look ahead for snow and cold is kind of like Coach Tuna used to tell the Cowboys: "Don't eat the cheese."

But then again, I do remember a time when the Cowboys didn't take the cheese and went out and won playoff games and Super Bowls.

And I also remember a time when it seemed like every 1-3 years we'd get one or two pretty decent snow or sleet events in February in my part of the world. Had several of those back in the 1980s when I was in high school and college.

Also remember a pretty good Arctic air mass back in early February 1996 right after the Cowboys won the Super Bowl.

Ahh, the good old days. :cold:

So far this month in the Lake Texoma area, we've had 18 of 24 mornings at or below freezing (with a low of 19 degrees) - just wish once we could squeeze out a good snow event before winter winds down.
