Nice Mammatus Overhead this Morning

#1 Postby Nalora » Wed May 14, 2003 7:44 am

Besides the beauty of a Supercell formation standing alone above an Oklahoma Wheatfield, mammatus have GOT to be my second favorite cloud formation to see. The ones this morning are exceptional, right over my head as I went out to let my little chihuhahua do his morning duties.

Under a severe thunderstorm warning this morning, seems that line north of me has one severe cell, the one over by Calumet/El Reno, Oklahoma, this line is moving south at about 40 mph and has some pretty hefty winds, so they say, at about 50 mph.

David Payne, my favorite weatherguy here in Oklahoma (Channel 4 News local), says that these will weaken as they go further south, and we will be in the clear later on today.

Looking at the Mesonet chart, I see the shift in the winds just north, and the dew points are still way up there.

Right now the conditions at my house:

70°F
Haze Feels Like
70°F
UV Index: 0 Minimal
Dew Point: 70°F
Humidity: 100%
Visibility: 2.0 miles
Pressure: 29.85 inches and rising
Wind: Variable at 5 mph

As reported at Tinker AFB, OK Last Updated Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at 6:55 AM Central Daylight Time (Wednesday, 7:55 AM EDT).

My garden got some water last night and I woke up twice with thunder, but I knew it was not tornado stuff, so I pretty much slept through it.
