One Year anniversary on the great floods from Hurricane Ivan
Today marks the one year anniversary of the floods that devestated the Ohio Valley caused by the one and only Hurricane Ivan. My area received nearly 9.5" of rain on Sept 17th of last year and caused major flooding on creeks and then the Ohio River. The damage to homes and businesses was overwhelming. A few lives were also lost during the floods due to the quick rise of the creeks. I will never forget that day and I am working on a short story about the day and how i lived it. My house was spared but some of my friends werent so lucky.

We started moving into our brand new house on Sept. 17th. My brother-in-law and myself drove through water up to the top of the tires. We had no idea what was going on. We thought we had hit a puddle. We made it through, and we were the last ones to cross the bridge by our new house because water was up to the bottom of it. We didn't know how bad it was. We were lucky to have not gotten caught in anything worse. This was truely a storm to not forget about. We luckly made it to some friends house that took us in for the night. At the new house, we only had 4 bottle of water, 2 donuts, and a half of bag of popcorn. It took us almost an hour to make it 10 miles over to the first house. On Saturday, we were able to get back to our rental house and we made it over to get the UHaul truck. We got the truck packed and got 90% of our stuff moved to the new house. We had to find a new way to the house because of the flooding. Thankfully, the new house had no damage from the flood caused by Ivan. The water got within 1000 yards of the house. I considered ourselves very lucky that day.

I flew out of Pittsburgh the day that the rain was falling. The major flooding happened during that weekend.
Because of the flash flooding, it took over 4 hours to do my normal 20 minute trek to the airport. The bus driver tried 7 different directions until we found a way that got us to the airport that wasn't blocked off by law enforcement.
The flight was actually that bad. You would think flying through the remnants of a tropical system you'd have to deal with some bumps. Barely had any. It was mainly a major rainmaker at that time. First time in a while that I saw raid streaking by that high up though.
