Severe Weather Possible Today southern LA, MS, AL
Watch out. Strong thunderstorm winds can approach hurricane-force, and tornadoes aren't out of the question. This is an an area still reeling from Hurricanes Rita and Katrina, and many homes are not able to withstand hurricane-force winds any longer (if they are still there), not to mention even a strong thunderstorm can flood New Orleans again. A non-severe squall line passed through the area a week ago, but this system might have a little more to it.

Just got my first severe storm of the evening, looks like there are more to my west. I am in Washington Parish, LA. Areas north of Lake Ponchartrain could see some nasty storms over the next few hours. I had gusty winds, lots of lightning and heavy rain. Just a heads up for those around me and to my east.
