West Houston's Pretty Darn Wet (12/14)

#1 Postby JenBayles » Wed Dec 14, 2005 11:15 am

WOW! We haven't had a soaker like this in months. The back yard pumps are going nonstop and the street runneth over. Judging by the water level in the pool, we've had well over 2" in the past 90 minutes and more coming in. Much more of this and I'll be dressing up as the Gorton's Fisherman and heading out to drain the excess water out of the pool. Ugh....

And the whole area from Houston to Pensacola is under a slight risk. Careful, and make sure the tarps on the roofs are well-secured. It's always scary to see this portion of the country under the gun for severe weather due to the fact they have already gone through so much this year.

URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOOD ADVISORY POSTED FOR OUR AREA ALSO. See the warnings thread.

Radar is indicating continuing storms building and moving in over the Houston Metro area.

Besides that radar also shows the front and its' rain still to our N and W and moving this way. It appears to me that another Short Wave with a lot of energy is developing over W TX and will move this way later this evening. Looks like we may in for a very wet day with possible flooding issues later if that SW continues to develop and tracks like I think it will.

Check out a hi-res visible shot of SE Texas. The tops are getting up there - and the shadows caused by them show up very nicely.

Strong S winds here in League City and darkening skies toward Houston. I will keep you posted on the conditions during the day. Looks to be a very storm afternoon. Everyone be safe.

Well, that's it. I've been flooded in for over 2 hours and just as we finally got a break and the 2+ feet of water began to recede, here comes that darn cow and her rock again. I've waited 3 weeks for a doctor's appointment that was supposed to be at 1:15. Doesn't look like I'll be getting out any time today, and sure hope it doesn't take another 3 weeks to reschedule. At this rate, I just hope Dave can get to house when he gets off work!

Torrential rains last hour here in League City which flooded the front of our parkage garage at South South. Lots of intense sheet lightening and some gusty winds....nothing to strong.

Sounds like the area I live in. Son's fiancee called from our house and said she was videoing cars trying to get through our flooded streets. I also talked to a man who had driven Westview and watched cars floating!!!! Wife couldn't make it home for lunch either(same area). The worst appears to be over, but more rain is on the way. Cooling into the lower 60's now. Probably about as warm as we will see for the next 7-10 days.

VERY heavy rain here too! My yard is flooded and the big ditch that runs behind my house that flows into Pine Island Bayou is starting to back up into my backyard as well. Lots of thunder and lightning too.

My sister is stuck in downtown Beaumont. All of the streets are flooded and she can't find a way out. Geesh.

My parents lost power but fortunately (and surprisingly), I didn't. Very heavy rain and very gusty winds. I've just got a lake here.

There's a NASTY looking squall line moving across the LA/TX border right now, the same one that is flooding southerngale over in Beaumont right now. Just light rain so far in Lafayette today but it will be a very wet night with a squall line like this approaching. Tornado watch is in effect as well so I'll be keeping an eye out for anything severe.

Flood Warnings have been issued for almost all of the major Bayous in Houston this afternoon(Hall's, Green's, Buffalo, and Cypress Creek). No reports of major flooding yet, but with rain still falling and another at least moderate line on the way in from the West, it could get dicey later this evening.

Kelly keep the oars handy and be safe!!!!!

Well I know this isn't Texas, but since it's the same system, I'll post here. That line was pretty rough moving through Baton Rouge, lots of incredible lightning all across the sky, and the thunder would last for over a minute sometimes! It got gusty for about 20-30 minutes, but now it's down to a drizzle. Our parking lot doesn't drain very well, so part of it got a little flooded, but I think everyones cars should be okay. Unlike hurricane Rita, which flooded a lot of cars here. BTW, there was a huge halo around the moon here last night. A pretty amazing sight.

I saw the halo here in lafayette Tuesday night also. And sure enough in 24-48 hours we had severe weather. I even mentioned the halo in chat last night. GMTA!!!!!!!!
