Drought Watch Declared in New Jersey

New Jersey is now under a drought watch. A drought "watch" means that people are being asked to voluntarily conserve water.
One way to do that is to limit lawn watering to twice a week. Another is fixing leaking faucets and pipes, and turning off the faucet when brushing your teeth or shaving.
Tony Navoy, assistant director of the New Jersey Water Science Center, says the US Geological Survey is keeping a close watch on things:
"Most of our hydrologic monitoring is at levels that are below normal, and USGS has a number of stream-gauging sites and monitoring wells where they keep tabs on water levels in the aquifers and stream flows statewide."
Navoy says the problem was caused by the driest March on record.
