Dry Heat Anyone?

#1 Postby Aslkahuna » Wed Jul 26, 2006 9:20 pm

The dewpoint in PHX last night soared to 81F in the wake of a thunderstorm and combined with the temperature of 86F yielded a Heat Index of 102F. Dews today in AZ and SE CA have been in the mid 60's to mid 70's. Not exactly what most people have in mind when they sat dry heat. BTW that dewpoint at PHX is a record breaking the old record of 78F.

All time-usually maximum dewpoints in PHX during the monsoon peak in the mid 70's the 80 F dews are usually found in the Imperial Valley, Yuma and as far north as Thermal and Needles. Even so, with dewpoints in the mid to upper 60's which is very common in the Summer in AZ, one could hardly characterize that as dry heat. I remember back in 2000 when we were attending the orientation sessions for the UofA, that the people frm back east were having a hard time coping with an early monsoon start with dews in the 60's and temperatures arounf 105F.

Ouch, that's got to be hot. Not much better here in SoCal. This is absolutely the highest humidity I have ever experienced since I was living in Texas.
