Hottest days of the year progged for the Carolinas

Here comes the heat for the Carolinas today. 850mb temperatures analyzed ranging from 18-21ºC with full insolation under very hazy skies today, temperatures should have very little problem ranging from the mid-90's to 102 today across the Carolinas. Humidity values and TD's remain a problem as well. Surface winds are expected to be light today and with not much mixing, higher heat indecies should be expected.

The Carolinas are for obvious reasons under a heat advisory, with potentials for upgrades to excessive heat criteria. This was specifically addressed at CHS WRT to the seabreeze boundary effects during the afternoon.

Tomorrow will likely be a tad hotter with 850mb temperatures increasing across the Carolinas to 20-23ºC, again under full insolation and not much in the way of a triggering mechanism for widespread convection ... however, with less mixing the next couple of days, i can't leave the prog completely thunderstorm free..... generally temperatures should range again from the mid-90's to 102.... some of the hotter spots could reach 103 or 104º in the next two days...

Stay indoors as much as possible and stay safe from the heat ....

Rarely because of higher dewpoints and humidity in which evaporation effects slow the process of warming boundary layer air somewhat ... but on occasions especially the hotter spots and locales can reach 105º during intense heat waves.

Cloudiness beginning to billow around the region here as well ... but on the forefront ... temperatures are soaring very nicely with almost max insolation ... now 98º here, with a dewpoint of 74º, heat index now 107º ... downtown Charleston now clocking in with 97º, and an 80º dewpoint ... heat index downtown Charleston by the Waterfront Park 117º ....

Excessive heat watch in effect for much of the Carolinas tomorrow ... which is defined here as heat indecies 115º or over for any duration of time...

Temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to primarily run upper 90's to lower 100's with heat indecies running 110º and higher. Nevertheless, the heat advisory remains in effect for the next two to three days during this unrelenting heat wave...

whats the forumula for heat index anyway?

It's an extremely complicated formula and one that I don't readily have handy. I had compiled a pretty complete listing a long time ago of actual observations and then charted them a long time ago so I could use the NWS's obs. for quick reference when I was reading my temperature and dewpoint values.
