Tell me about the palm fronds, Yankee - my whole back yard is knee deep in the suckers. And it's not even my freakin' tree! I'm just glad it's not close to the house - those things are a lot heavier than they look and could easily go through a window. Not letting the dogs out back until this wind event is over.

The only time I remember a non-tropical wind storm like this was about 1982 or 83 in Oklahoma. We had a proper Oklahoma red dust storm with winds over 70 mph. The dust was so thick it looked like evening - all the street lights on and everyone sick and sneezing. Lasted three whole days - one to really get going, day 2 was the worst, and day 3 to finally start winding down. Took forever to clean the dust off of everything, even inside. I see some wraparound clouds trying to make it down here now. I was hoping to at least see a pretty sunset with all the dust in the air, but looks like we'll be cheated out of that show. Oh well, just hoping the power stays on at this point!

What a mess. One of my neighbors is already at it with the chainsaw on one of his trees that split. I'm waiting until tomorrow since it's still blowing pretty good out there now, and it's noticeably colder!

WOW! Those are some impressive pictures. I wouldn't be surprised if those winds between the canyons were gusting close to 60 mph.

Ain't it the truth double D - I wouldn't want to be in downtown Houston today. Bad enough on a regular weather day much less with 30 mph winds. EEK!
