#1 Postby azsnowman » Tue Jun 17, 2003 6:55 pm

HOLY COW :o Just saw the home video of a twister in Winslow, Az. :o "MAYBE" a F1 or less...a cold funnel cloud, non the less..........No damage reported, it was on the ground for over 20 minutes on the west side.

Wow! :o Sounds quite impressive! Glad there was no damage or anything like that... I take it that tornadoes are pretty rare there? :?:

in my reply to your earlier thread, the wind profiles on the soundings were interesting (would have piqued interest in the Plains), Winslow was closer to the dynamics aloft which was an extra added ingredient. The Funnel cloud seen by my son near here on May 29th has been confirmed as a brief tornado also.

Can you believe this? I saw the Tornado Warning online from the
NWS this afternoon...and emailed Steve as soon as I read the warning
Not exactly a normal stroll in the afternoon desert high plains, is it?

Sheer axis was inline with a Western Plains ULL and a Thermal Low SW of AZ plus a ULL near Las Vegas.
I drove to Nogales,MX on Monday in exteme heat 106+ and saw the CBs setting up in SE AZ along the Mountains into old Mexico..when I saw my temp and dewpont on Tues Noon go to 104/58F respectively,I knew something was up...plus Troppy Storm 'Blanca' off Mex..the dymamics are
changing for the better for us Wx Junkies.Add that to dry LTG..The Mt Lemmon Fire Im watching(Smoke has Vis here in Oro Valley <1mile at times)..its dam interesting...Ahh the West!

Summerhaven Evacuated

#6 Postby Arizwx » Wed Jun 18, 2003 2:24 pm

Update:
Major Smoke/ash incursion into my area of Oro Valley last night has blown off to the east for now vs West.
However..even as my Dp is 51F with a 99F sfc temp, the CBs are building in pockets from SW to NE across the Mountains of Tucson Metro including Mt lemmon just to my east.Watching the flames last night was impressive before the Vis went < one mile.
The Fire is now < one mile from the town of Summerhaven, near the Summit between Ski Valley&Mt Bigelow(where the Tucson Media TV Towers are located near 9,000ft asl.
Less than a few hundred ppl live in Summerhaven, however it is a favorite of Tucsonans to escape the heat..current on Mt Lemmon 77F wind SE 14 G 20/High Basers roaming..Dry LTG indicated just SE of Oracle and the Old Gold Trail Back Road to Mt Lemmon at Peppersauce Canyon.
