Florida Frontal Boundary Moving North?

#1 Postby ColdFront77 » Tue Jun 24, 2003 9:19 pm

It looks like the frontal boundary that was stationary the several days and actually made it across the Florida peninsula is moving back as a warm front, at least somewhat. The western edge of the boundary as lifted northeastward according to the Unisys Weather 6-hour loop.

It is reflected in my temperature. It has been between 75 and 80 degrees at this hour when the front (stationary for most of the time, especially two days ago) was located to my north and just one day as it was approaching my area of central Florida it was 72ºF. It is currently 77ºF.

Hmmmm... that's interesting. I wonder what caused the stationary frontal boundary to move north... it'll probably be reflected in your local NWS discussion. ;)

Cold fronts move southerly, then slow down, stall and at times lift northward as a warm front. It has even happened in the northeastern United States; backdoor fronts come down from Maine and then lift back to the north.

The tropical moisture plume associated with the convection in the northwestern Caribbean is moving toward Florida. The frontal boundary fell apart across southern Florida and temperatures will rise a few degrees and dewpoint should be rising quite a bit.

Good call Tom :)

From NWA JAX

MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES THIS MORNING ARE MARRED ONLY BY A FEW CIRRUS
SPILLING OVER THE UPPER RIDGE. DEWPOINTS ARE RUNNING HIGHER AS
EXPECTED...IN THE LOWER 70S PREPARING US FOR A MUGGY WEEKEND.
PRECIPITABLE WATER (PWAT) IS CREEPING UPWARDS TO 1.26 INCHES. AREA
REMAINS UNDER A RIDGE SO ALL-IN-ALL A SLIGHT CHANCE OF CONVECTION
THIS AFTERNOON IS GOOD

Thank you Bron. :)

There looks like there will be some wet weather across the peninsula, at least from the extreme eastern edge of the convection in the Caribbean.
