7 inches of rain in 2 hours!!

Well we have had a freak rainstorm in Boynton Beach Florida this afternoon/evening:
The National Weather Service in Miami has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
east central Palm Beach County in Southeast Florida...
this includes the city of Boynton Beach...

* until 845 PM EST

* at 643 PM EST... trained weather spotters reported flash flooding
from a heavy shower over the warned area. Public reports of water
entering businesses near the intersection of Congress and Gateway
have been received. Radar estimates that in excess of seven inches
have fallen during the past two hours. A storm spotter in Boynton
Beach reported in excess of five inches before his rain gauge
overflowed at 6 PM.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. The water may obscure deep canals or ponds.

A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring.
If you are in the warning area move to a safer location immediately

I know I drove through the area around 6:00 PM and the roads were inundated and water up to hoods in parking lots.

Then went about 1 1/2 miles west and there was only light rain and no flooding at all.
Apparently the rain has continued in the same area I drove through almost 2 hours ago and radar shows "red" remaining over it.

It happens every once in a while in florida. I got 13" in 5 hours last February.

Another 1-3 inches this afternoon in same area with a funnel cloud sighted at 3:50 PM.

Just strange how an isolated area gets clobbered two days in a row.

Dizzy can attest to this, but Port Richey/New Port Richey have been clobbered numerous times in the past month-6 weeks by very strong storms including tornadoes.

Oh, it is just strange how some areas will get a "bullseye" on them for periods of time.
New Port Richey like you saw and Boynton Beach these two days.
And at the same time an area just a few miles away will get just some scattered showers.

Remember, Frances and Jeanne hit the same area just 3 weeks apart. Imagine getting the eye twice in that short period of time!

Then maybe not see another one for many years (hopefully )

I notice when there is extremely heavy rain like the one you mention, it happens in a small area. It is like a core rain event, like we saw with Allison in 2001. I know in October of 1984, Orem, Texas got 25 inches of rain in 3 hours, while Corpus Christi just got 0.04 inches of rain.

Your welcome. It is amazing. It happened last summer in Central Texas. Marble Falls got 18 inches of rain, while some areas got 0.05 inches.

Here is the satellite image of the Orem Rain in 1984. Houston was also affected by flooding a week later.
