Rare F3/F4 Hits Virginia Area

#1 Postby liveweatherman » Tue Apr 29, 2008 4:50 am

SUFFOLK, Va. - Three tornadoes ripped through Virginia on Monday, with one hop-scotching across the southeastern part of the state and leaving behind a 25-mile trail of smashed homes, tossed cars and more than 200 injured residents. The twister in this city outside Norfolk cut a fickle, zig-zagging path through neighborhoods, obliterating some homes and spraying splintered wood across lawns while leaving those standing just a few feet away untouched.
Buses took residents to safety, steering clear of downed power lines, tree limbs and a confetti of debris.continue

Too bad I had no Internet last night; I first heard about it last night. Looks like about an EF3.

I saw the destruction today in the news and its impressive. My condolences to the families affected and lets hope no one injured during the tornado dies.

The town of Driver, which was basically destroyed by the tornado, is about 15 miles from me and is actually a community that is part of the City of Suffolk.

My city went under a tornado warning and I evacuated my mobile home. It missed me by several miles but the cloud base was VERY low. It is pretty rare to get tornadoes that strong in my area. Mostly they are F0 or F1 with an occasional F2.

I had no idea that happened the night it did. Unreal, the night when your not expecting anything the worst hits.
