So it's unusual for your A/C to be on in June? Coming from someone in the deep south, running the heat in June is what's insane. LOL
I'd be willing to bet nobody in the state of Texas has ever ran a heater in June. :P

My A/C has been on for months. I'd die if I turned it off.

People do use heaters in Texas in the summer. There was a story in the Houston Chronicle about that just a few days ago. Apparently they keep some office buildings so cold that some workers especially women bring space heaters to work and put them on or under their desks. My daughter knows about this first hand as she shares an office with a gal that does that.

Yeah, but that's because some people run their air conditioners so much, it gets cold inside for some people. I guess I should have worded it differently... I'd be willing to bet nobody in state of Texas has ever ran a heater in June due to cold weather. :)

This is mid-July heat wave weather for us. We went from weather that more like March and April to a little bit of May to right into summer. That does happen around here but usually not this hot this early.

If my A/C wasn't running, I'd be dying right now as well!

You're right... I don't run the heat very much in the winter. Not nearly as much as you guys do!
I just thought everyone had to run their A/C's in the summer.

Marty and I like to have the windows open as much as possible, so when it's in the low 80's and the humidity/dewpoint is reasonable, we open them up. In June, we normally have more of a chance to do that, particularly before the summer season officially starts. We also have a whole house fan to turn on to flush the hot air out of the house when we have the windows open. By the time July and August rolls around though, the A/C is on the majority of the time.

Down "the Shore" as we New Jerseyans call it, many places don't have air conditioning because of the sea breeze. There could be a 10 degree difference just 5 miles inland.

An in depth-analysis by Mike Defino
Finally some relief is on the way to this heat wave. Unfortunately this relief will come in strong to severe thunderstorms in a very moist BL...

The set up

This set up will not be favorable for a major severe weather outbreak for the major cities from NYC southward. Main reason is the mid level trough, which is currently over the central plains, will push eastward and take a neg. tilt with strongest winds on the east side of the trough causing it to lift northward. As it does so it will carry those stronger winds aloft and place them post frontal and over New England. However, current guidance shows strong frontogetic forcing taking place along the front with strong low level and sfc convergence which will aid in the development of the thunderstorms tuesday afternoon. continue reading

In Richmond it is going to be 120 degrees tomorrow! (2008 June 10). That's 120 degrees BELOW ZERO. That's the wind chill, not the temperature, but I guess they figured some way of getting a -120 wind chill out of a 101 degree temperature. It says so on Weather Underground ( http://www.wunderground.com/US/VA/Richmond.html ):

Forecast for Henrico

So put on your parkas. No kidding.

Re: Big Heat Of The Season Pushing Near -120°F!

Notice that the forecast for the Day after Tomorrow calls for wind chills as low as 120 below. Has the Global Superstorm arrived?

I am wondering what caused that blip. The Wunderground forecasts are merely a spelling out of some code such as METARS that comes out to recipients of forecasts. What kind of mistyping or bad character could cause the Antarctic forecast to come up?

Record highs were set up and down the East Coast and we were no exception here in central Virginia. Richmond reached 100 degrees, breaking the old record of 99, set in 1984. This was the 2nd earliest 100-degree occurrence on record. Norfolk reached 101 degrees this afternoon, breaking the daily record of 98, set way back in 1899. This was the hottest temperature so early in the season at Norfolk.continue

Category 5 wrote:Excessive heat warning here. TWC is calling for 100 tomorrow, I doubt it though. Still this is odd for this early in June. It's not just one or two days either.
I believe 1983, 1984 and 1999 are a few examples of similar early warmth. How do people see the rest of the summer going? Is this another case of the only summer weather being in June, as happened in 1984, or is this more like 1983, 1988 and 1999 where it kept going and going and going (1988 had a few two-day events hitting 98,99 in Central Park).

Thank you! :)

Early next week looks like it'll be in the low 80's - may be able to open some windows and save on electric.

A very nice day today. On the Boardwalk in Atlantic City it really couldn't have been more perfect. Warm, not very humid, a bit of a breeze, very comfortable. Unfortunately, I couldn't extend my lunch break for the rest of the afternoon.

I MUST SAY the water is a very pretty blue to blue/green. It kind of reminded me a little bit of the tropics. Pretty incredible for up in these parts.
