Sorry I haven't been around but my Desktop has fallen to the crashed lands on Sunday night (from just 10 years of continuous use). Absolutely pounded in Summerville SC today. I'm typing from a work PC (which we still have only partial power as of this typing... which pretty much rendered us businessless for the night). Incredible MCS and incredible rainfalls for the duration it lasted. Winds gusted 50 to 60 MPH during the heart of the worst, with basically straight line winds for a brief time. What an active June thus far with many MCS activity for this month. (Last Thursday night, a strong MCS with a tremendous lightning display occurred). Friday night, another MCS but this one only grazed the area, but another yet beautiful lightning display.
The MCS experienced in Charleston, Dorchester, and Berkeley Counties today and then reforming into Southern SC today was a result of seabreeze boundaries interacting with the boundaries set up by the very early morning MCS that blasted thru Berkeley and Upper Charleston County overnight. What an event. There was an unofficial report of 86 MPH winds in Dorchester County. In St. George, a tree fell thru a mobile home resulting in possible injuries. Last Friday, a storm produced a 92 MPH wind measured at the Hilton Head Airport Tower.
All in all, just for the month of June ... there have been 2 hail events, several damaging lightning events, 4 MCS (mesoscale convective systems) ... quite different from the last 5 years of summers in South Carolina when the drought was so severe.
Active June continues for Lower SC (plus a Sunday PC Failure
