I unintentionally intercepted a tornado Saturday.

#1 Postby Sunshine™ » Tue Aug 24, 2010 4:23 am

We went to Columbus, and on the way home it started raining, we didn't have any watches, any warnings, so I just told my mother to drive through it.

All of a sudden, rotation appears on radar, I just pass it off as nothing because we weren't really seeing any in the sky, but it was raining INTENSE, viability was about 15-20 feet, crazy poop.

Our vehicle starts rocking, and I just think we're starting to lose traction due to the high amount of rain, but when I hear a LOUD noise, and my ears pop.

I tell my mother to pull off the interstate, and we take cover inside of a gas station, we alert the clerk, and he puts out a warning on the PA, and us, with about 20-30 different people take cover in the freezer thing and call the fire department so that they'll activate the sirens.

5-10 minutes later, we decide it's probably passed, so we leave, and go back home, not even realizing that it was a tornado, I thought it could of just been a downburst.

I start browsing the local news websites, and I see a picture of a water spout, in the same area, and the path of which it took, would of hit our vehicle twice, and it matches the time frame.

I'm amazed tbh.

The red line is the path, and the black dot is where we took shelter, we were driving along 70.
