Jellyfish in the skies?

..... well thats what they looked like as they passed over us in the UK recently. More specifically Ac cast with virga. Pretty spectacular taking on an almost 'extra terrestrial' look.

Those are unique clouds!

I wonder if anyone has ever seen them in the United States...

Are they "more common" in England?

Not really. I have never seen anything like this in th UK before. They are actually a result of Hurricane Fabian skirting the UK bringing with it some upper level instability.

I have seen any clouds that looked anything remotely like that!! It looks almost like there was upper air stability with high winds below it. However since you stated what caused it Mark I know better.
